7 Reasons why Synthetic Sports Fields and Multi-Sports Surfaces so popular

By admin on February 16, 2015

There are many reasons why a school might consider synthetic sports fields or multi-sports surfaces over the traditional natural grass and asphalt playgrounds.

1. Palmerston North Girls High had real safety concerns with their ‘hard courts’ and needed a solution that provided a non-slip surface with plenty of versatility for tennis, netball and hockey.

2. Mairangi Bay Primary School's problem with its sports field is common for many schools.  Come winter, the natural sports fields were wet and muddy resulting in constantly closed fields; and in the summer they were dry, patchy and as hard as concrete.

3. At Broadlands School, the TigerTurf playground surface has more students participating in sport. “Our new synthetic turf playground encourages all our students to play sport; hockey, netball, tennis and basketball teams are having fun while improving their skills.” says principal, Graeme Taylor.

4. At Newlands Intermediate School, the all-weather, durable turf is available for play any day of the year, improving scheduling and reducing cancellations; and the teams are making the most of it!

5. With 650 students at Papatoetoe Central School, health and safety is always a top priority.  The plastic tiles on the existing playground were slippery and moved with changing temperatures creating trip hazards and the bark was messy and difficult to maintain.  With the extensive range of play equipment, meeting critical fall height regulations was paramount.

6. The on-going maintenance required to retain the bark within the playground area was the primary reason for looking at alternative playground surfaces within Hauraki School.

7. Orewa College required a multi-sport facility to be used predominantly for School and Community hockey but to also accommodate the school’s physical education programme.  The facility has enabled a great training facility for school and club hockey in the district.

Cracked, puddled and closed school grounds, unsafe and unforgiving courts and muddy grass pitches are a thing of the past with synthetic turf.  Synthetic playgrounds transform school’s campuses lift participation and skill levels; significantly reduce cancellations and maintenance (in both playgrounds and classrooms), provide a more consistent playing surface meaning fewer injuries.
