The Club Sapphire Story

The Club Sapphire Story

Aidan Davis, the communications and marketing manager at Bowls Australia, said the two new BowlsWeave green surfaces and the canopy provide even playing conditions day and night in all weathers. This played a significant part in the decision to award Club Sapphire the right to host the Australian Bowling Championships for the next three years.

“Best of its kind”

“Best of its kind”

The appointment is an endorsement of the world class TigerTurf BowlsWeave surface, which are now playing perfectly with a good 15 second roll on the smooth green; much to the delight of players and audiences. “Best of its kind” was the general description of the TigerTurf BowlsWeave surface, by some of the state’s top players, said Michael Wilks, the club’s Bowls Development Officer. The Australian Bowling Championship will bring many visitors to the area, boosting tourism and benefit other venues too.

TigerTurf BowlsWeave

TigerTurf’s BowlsWeave is a non-filled woven surface manufactured by world renowned Greengauge Surfaces Ltd. Greengauge is a truly world-class company, selling in to all major lawn bowling countries. BowlsWeave is marketed exclusively in Australia by TigerTurf.

Excellent Playing Qualities

The two TigerTurf BowlsWeave greens were installed by the TigerTurf installation and construction team over two existing natural grass greens. The splendid open-sided roof constructed over the greens enables play to continue according to the playing  schedule, night and day, rain or shine.

Local construction company, MakMax Australia, built the canopy, which has improved the playing conditions for members and visiting teams. The extended playing hours have allowed more players to use the greens without having to build extra greens.

The TigerTurf BowlsWeave greens are winning compliments from the members at Club Sapphire, Merimbula, NSW, and from  the teams taking part in the State of Origin Tournament between Victoria and New South Wales recently held on the new greens.

The players were most impressed by the excellent playing qualities of the two greens and rated them amongst the top greens in Australia. The TigerTurf BowlsWeave project has been immensely successful for Club Sapphire, as well as benefiting Australian bowls on a national scale.

TigerTurf Australia is proud to have been part of this project, and glad to see the members playing with renewed enthusiasm on their new greens.
