“We are fortunate to be able to provide our club members with two covered greens and a new outdoor alfresco area. This will benefit the club and wider Warrnambool community. Bowls can now be played in all weather conditions, and we look forward to seeing increased participation in bowls.” The City Bowls General Manager, Julie Dosser, is enthusiastic about the potential of the recent construction of the roof and outdoor dining, viewing area, including our installation of a fabulous TigerWeave surface on the number one green.

The new surface has been installed by TigerTurf on the A green at the City Memorial Bowls Club as part of a major redevelopment by the club. The works included the installation of a PVC membrane roof (by Lightweight Constructions) over the two main greens, a first in Victoria, equipped with lights and electronic scoreboards, along with a new outdoor undercover alfresco area. There are now extensive concrete paths surrounding the entire area, new walls and fencing.

Reconfiguration allows for beautiful alfresco dining area

After lifting the existing sand-filled surface, our construction team excavated part of the base in order to re-position the A green by 6 metres. This allowed room for the new alfresco dining area to sit alongside the A green, with the bonus of some spectacular bowls entertainment.

New ditch walls were installed as part of this reconstruction to align the two greens; we adjusted our project workflow to accommodate the construction of the new roof covering both greens. The existing drainage was working well, so we formed a new crushed rock base, laser-leveled to guarantee an accurate roll. Top-level bowls players can place their bowls exactly given the correct speed and roll every time, as on this green.

TigerBond and Underlay provides stability and comfort

We always apply TigerBond to stabilise the crushed rock surface to allow many years of good quality play on our TigerWeave bowls carpets. The underlay we install beneath the bowl’s surface extends the playing life of this top surface and gives extra comfort underfoot for the bowlers, who may be standing for some time during intense competition.

The new green was finished with the attention to detail TigerTurf is known for, with new plinths, ditch dropper grass and new ditch grass around the green. This perfect finish has created an impressive new green for the City Memorial Bowls Club, and the Warrnambool community.
