Sustainability Practices at TigerTurf

We recognize that our operations have an impact on the environment and we are determined to minimise that impact. We do that by reducing our carbon emissions, improving our energy efficiency and reducing our waste.

Working towards Zero Waste to Landfill Certification

As part of the TenCate family, we are dedicated to achieving Zero Waste to Landfill certification across all manufacturing facilities. Strategies include:

  • Using recyclable raw materials
  • Partnering with plastic recycling initiatives
  • Improving waste segregation
  • Collaborating with waste collectors to repurpose production materials

TigerTurf is investing locally in NZ to develop new technologies for responsible end-of-life management of synthetic turf. Partnerships with GBN Recycling, ExxonMobil and Cyclyx recycle old turf into raw materials for new high-performance products.

Ecocept - Recycled Base Layer

Ecocept turns landfill waste into high-performance sports surfaces. Made from recycled rubber and end-of-life plastic, it improves drainage, biomechanical performance and reduces construction impact. For a typical football field of 8,000m², an Ecocept base layer can incorporate approximately 75 tonnes of recycled plastic and 70 tonnes of recycled rubber. This can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 112.5 tonnes compared to a conventional aggregate and asphalt base construction.

Natural & Safe Materials

We continue to develop product options that reduce the need for performance infill and are independently tested for safety.

  • Natural or no infills: cork and olive pits replace microplastic alternatives, no infill innovation
  • Cooling technologies: such as Geocool, Solteria MAX and Ecotherm reduce surface temperatures of the turf
  • TigerCool
  • Products developed using natural infill alternatives and infill-free designs, independently tested to verify player safety.

ISO & Sustainability Certifications

Our facilities are aligned with international standards for quality, environmental management and workplace safety:

  • ISO 9001: Quality Management
  • ISO 14001: Environmental Management
  • ISO 45001: Occupational Health & Safety
  • ISCC Plus: Traceable bio-based and circular raw materials
  • SMETA 4-Pillar Audit: Ethical trade, labour, safety and environmental practices

Energy Efficiency & Carbon Reduction

We’re actively reducing our energy consumption and carbon footprint with initiatives like:

  • Switching from town water to rainwater harvesting
  • Converting to LED lighting and evaluating solar power
  • Process improvements to boost energy efficiency by 20% by 2028
