Manaia View School’s Netball Court Upgrade

Manaia View School sought to upgrade its outdoor spaces to better serve both recreational and curricular activities. The existing asphalt court had become damaged over time, with cracks and an uneven surface, making it unsuitable for sports or active play. The school needed a safe, durable, and low-maintenance surface that could accommodate a variety of sports, encourage outdoor activity, and improve the overall aesthetic of the school grounds.

After consulting with the TigerTurf team, the decision was made to install a TigerTurf Trophy multi-purpose surface. The design included several key features that the school wanted, including a netball court with four new hoops, a four-square court, a Ki-o-rahi area, and a chessboard. These elements provide ample opportunities for both structured sports and free play, ensuring the space can be used for a range of activities throughout the school day.

Improved Safety and Functionality

The new TigerTurf Trophy court has transformed the school’s outdoor space, offering a much safer and more functional area for students to engage in physical activities. The previous asphalt court was no longer suitable for sports or games due to its cracks and uneven surface. In contrast, the new turf provides a smooth, cushioned surface that encourages more students to get outside and be active.

The versatile surface also allows for multiple sports to be played simultaneously, including netball, soccer, and other ball games. The addition of the four-square court and Ki-o-rahi area further enhances the space, giving students opportunities for both structured sports and unstructured free play.

Outcome

Since the installation of the TigerTurf Trophy multi-purpose surface, the school has seen a noticeable increase in student engagement in outdoor activities. The area has become the preferred playground for students, with the vibrant, green turf providing a more inviting and comfortable space for play. The surface is also far more durable than the old asphalt court, withstanding constant use without showing signs of wear. The project has not only improved the safety and functionality of the school’s outdoor space but also contributed to a positive school environment. The new court is now an integral part of the school’s daily activities and a source of pride for both students and staff.
