De La Salle College

TigerTurf partnered with the Catholic Diocese of Auckland to upgrade the 1120m² multicourt at De La Salle College, delivering a reliable and long‑lasting sports surface that would serve the school well into the future. The project began with the uplift and removal of the existing surface, followed by careful regrading of the aggregate base to restore stability and ensure effective drainage. Once the base was prepared, TigerTurf applied TigerBond, a binding layer designed to help lock the foundation together. This step improves surface consistency and supports the layers above by reducing the movement that often occurs in aggregate bases over time. With a stable platform in place, the team could proceed confidently with the remainder of the installation.

A 10mm rubber pad was then laid across the site, providing an important cushioning layer beneath the turf. Rubber pads are widely used in multi-sport facilities because they enhance shock absorption and player comfort, helping to reduce strain during repeated use. They also support consistent ball response, which is especially valuable for schools wanting to accommodate a range of sports throughout the year. Similar installations at Rodney College and Reporoa College have demonstrated the benefits of combining a rubber pad with a modern multi-sport surface, improving safety and offering dependable all‑weather performance for students.

With the pad in place, TigerTurf installed its Advantage surface, a hardwearing medium‑pile turf designed specifically for tennis and multisport environments. Advantage offers strong durability, supported by a 10‑year manufacturer’s warranty, and is engineered to remain stable and playable in all climate conditions. The yarn structure helps retain sand infill effectively and maintains performance for longer than many standard surfaces. Its non‑directional design ensures players experience consistent movement on the court, whether running lengthways or across, making it well suited to schools where surfaces see daily use from a wide range of sports and activities.

Colour and layout were key considerations for De La Salle College, which required line markings for two basketball courts and four volleyball courts. Advantage’s suitability for multisport use makes it ideal for facilities needing clear, longlasting line work that remains visible without compromising surface integrity. The chosen red outer and light blue inner areas create a strong visual contrast, improving visibility for players and supporting smooth transitions between sports. Advantage has been used in other New Zealand school environments for similar reasons, helping schools deliver versatile outdoor spaces that stay visually appealing and functional across different sporting codes.

Completed in January 2026, the resurfaced multicourt now provides De La Salle College with a dependable, allweather facility designed for regular student use. By combining a stabilised base, shockabsorbing pad and a purposeengineered multisport turf, TigerTurf delivered a robust and attractive surface that supports both current activities and longterm school needs. The partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Auckland ensured the project met the college’s expectations for durability, safety and yearround performance, resulting in a space that will continue to encourage active participation for many years to come.

Advantage

TigerTurf Advantage is an outstanding tennis and multi-sport surface that encourages players at the top of their game to extend themselves even further, while developing players can more readily improve their skills on this technical tennis turf.
