Student-Driven Design: Birdwood School’s Innovative New Sports Courts

Birdwood School, known for its active student body and dynamic outdoor spaces, boasted two asphalt courts that had been the heart of countless games and activities over the years. However, the passage of time had taken its toll, and the courts were beginning to show significant wear and tear. Fading lines and cracked surfaces signaled the need for an upgrade. Recognizing the importance of these courts for physical education and recreational play, the school decided it was time for a change. They turned to TigerTurf, a leader in creating vibrant, durable sports surfaces, to breathe new life and color into these beloved areas, ensuring they would continue to inspire and engage students for years to come.

A Sleek and Functional Football Court

Birdwood School was committed to ensuring that the revamped courts would be exactly what the students envisioned. To achieve this, TigerTurf staff were invited to the school for a collaborative meeting. Joining forces with some of the school’s most enthusiastic and creative students, the team brought out colored pens and paper, transforming the session into a vibrant design workshop. Ideas flowed freely as students sketched their dream courts, blending practicality with bursts of creativity. This collaborative effort culminated in some of the most unique and imaginative designs TigerTurf had ever installed, perfectly reflecting the spirit and energy of Birdwood School’s students.

The basketball court at Birdwood School now features an eye-catching combination of block colours, creating a surface that is both robust and playful. This vibrant design not only enhances the court’s durability but also infuses it with a lively energy, making it a true standout for the school.

TigerTurf refined the design of a sleek and functional football court in response to students’ enthusiasm. This new court features a clean layout and an inverse colour scheme to the basketball court, creating a cohesive look. It also includes volleyball line markings and a removable net, making it a versatile space for multiple sports and activities. This design ensures the court serves as a hub for various recreational pursuits. The revitalization of Birdwood School’s sports facilities with TigerTurf has enhanced aesthetics and created a dynamic, safe, environment for student activities. The versatile courts promote active play and community engagement making a lasting impact on campus life.
