Glendowie College

The TigerTurf cricket nets at Glendowie College have attracted dozens of enthusiastic cricketers to join the school teams, just as the school hoped. The inviting green perfection of the new practice nets has made them the popular hub of cricket at the college. Now practice afternoons resound with the thud of ball on bat amid shouts of encouragement and praise. Glendowie College is delighted with the continuing success of its new performance sports facility for encouraging and developing existing and new teams at the school.

TigerTurf was asked to construct new, two-lane cricket nets to provide a training facility for current and future school cricket teams. The college had no practice cricket nets and wanted us to construct attractive, high-performance practice wickets to encourage more college students to play cricket and to develop the skills of school teams at every level. The new nets had to be suitable for training top grades of school cricket teams, as the plan was to build the profile of cricket within the school and to eventually have teams ready to play in the upper grades of school cricket competitions.

TigerTurf constructed all-weather training nets with a level, responsive cricket surface

TigerTurf constructed all-weather training nets with a level, responsive cricket surface

TigerTurf constructed a new concrete slab at the batting end of the wickets, and a sturdy, well-draining aggregate base for the bowlers’ run-up. The aggregate forms a resilient, level base construction that absorbs impact during hours of practice by young bowlers and protects their joints when landing.

TigerTurf Classic is a medium-pile, textured, durable turf with excellent traction for the bowlers’ run-up. TigerTurf Premier was installed at the batting end – an excellent quality cricket surface providing true turn and bounce for cricketers to develop their skills on.

Classic

TigerTurf Classic is a great choice for tennis courts in junior schools, and for apartments, resorts and recreational family tennis. It is a medium pile, sand filled, fibrillated tennis surface, designed for recreational tennis and multisport use.

TigerTurf used Flexinets to allow other sports to use the TigerTurf multi-sports pitch

TigerTurf worked with Perennial Sports and Turf on a design using Flexinets to construct a high-performance cricket training centre that is attractive and practical for the school’s needs. Flexinets have proved to be an excellent choice for the school, for whom safe practice conditions were as important as having the best possible training conditions. Flexinets will protect the students from flying balls by keeping balls within bounds and absorbing the bruising energy of a hard-hit ball.

The other benefit the school appreciated was that the school cricket balls will remain in good condition for longer as Flexinets are less abrasive than fixed nets. The new nets are easily set up for practice afternoons, then moved off the playing field, allowing one sports pitch to be used for all school sports and activities.

The two-lane cricket nets provide safe, responsive conditions for developing confident, well-trained cricketers. The attractive, professional nets have steadily been drawing new cricketers into the school teams and providing better training opportunities for all the College cricket teams. A successful result for Glendowie College and a happy project for TigerTurf.
