Hauraki Plains College get state-of-the-art multi-sports courts

The new TigerTurf Advantage multi-courts bring vibrancy, versatility and many new sports to Hauraki Plains College. In celebration of the new sports centre, a Midlands hockey coach will be giving the school hockey teams some useful tips on their own hockey pitch.

TigerTurf Advantage is an outstanding tennis and multi-sport surface that encourages players at the top of their game to extend themselves even further, while developing players can more readily improve their skills on this technical tennis turf.

Multi-sports courts cleverly solve a number of school problems

“Originally the courts were used for community netball but became unsafe. It is great that we now have a facility that can be fully enjoyed by the College and community.”

One TigerTurf multi-sport turf adds up to five times more fun

The new multi-sports turf has been permanently and clearly marked for tennis, basketball and netball courts, for futsal, and a superb hockey pitch.

Multi-sports courts cleverly solve the perennial school problems of juggling tight budgets, limited space and the need to provide more choices for the sports curriculum. It also provides a useful all-weather, comfortable surface for school playtimes, assemblies, and outdoor summer lessons.

“Originally the courts were used for community netball but became unsafe. It is great that we now have a facility that can be fully enjoyed by the College and community,”

Anne Leonard, the spokesperson on behalf of the Hauraki Plains College, appreciates the benefits now enjoyed by the school community.

The old courts were unusable for the majority of the year, with a rough, uneven tarseal surface that became too hot in the summer.

Wet winter weather caused flooding that rendered the courts unplayable for long lengths of time, causing damage that had to be remedied over the summer months.

“Funding for the facility was provided by the college BOT and two Funding Trusts (One Foundation and NZ Community Trust), which has provided the school and community with a fantastic all-weather facility that can be used all year round,” Anne Leonard, the college funding coordinator explained.

Mobile equipment has been purchased with funds gratefully received by the college from The Trillian Trust. A community roster has already been established to make the most of the multi-courts.

“Thanks again to TigerTurf and all the staff who had a hand in our project; we think it is fabulous.”
