Kendall Park

Kendall Park, Kaiapoi, is the home of Waimakariri United Football Club, and in high demand by its 1200 keen members. Before the earthquake, the playing fields were constantly in use by football and cricket teams; however, as a result of the ground liquefaction, the surrounding area and the playing fields no longer drained. This resulted in frequent and annoying cancellations.

The premium TigerTurf football pitch is ready for action, whatever the weather.TigerTurf’s design solution included an elevated base together with an extensive network of subsoil drains and collectors to keep the pitch dry in flood conditions.A layer of compacted metal over the drains underlies a rubber shock pad that absorbs impact, avoiding injury to players.

The synthetic football surface is TigerTurf Endurance 60P, an outstanding performance turf.
The drainage was well tested during construction. Constant rain inundated the area as we worked, but also gave us the opportunity to gauge the success of the drainage system as it was built – and it certainly worked!

The flooded sports fields were just a glimpse of the problems that constantly challenge Christchurch sports clubs. We felt tremendous respect for their spirited resilience and strong determination to keep the ball rolling.

TigerTurf Endurance 60P

The TigerTurf Endurance 60P uses TenCate XP Blade+ yarn, which is the only yarn in the world sold with a 5 year unlimited play durability warranty from the yarn manufacturer regardless of the footwear used. The surface meets IRB and FIFA international standards, and is ideal for football, rugby, AFL, and futsal, giving the Waimakariri District Council a fantastic multi-functional asset for community sport.

Resilience and Perseverance Shine Through

The Kendall Park, Waimakariri sports fields were badly damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes.  The flooded sports fields were just a glimpse of the problems that constantly challenge Christchurch sports clubs. We felt tremendous respect for their spirited resilience and strong determination to keep the ball rolling.

The Kendall Park sports facility has new lighting, concrete paths, fencing, a viewing bund, shelters for the players and a high performance, durable synthetic playing surface for a variety of sports.

The club and district council are very happy with their new facility. They appreciated that TigerTurf listened to what they needed, and discussed possible solutions with them. We then designed a surface that met all the requirements, within budget, despite the appalling weather!  Kendall Park now provides the community with a top class training and match game surface for many years.
