Matawai School

In March 2024, TigerTurf completed the installation of a new 558m² multicourt at Matawai School, located in the rural Gisborne region. The school was looking for a durable, multi-use surface that could support a variety of sports and activities for its students. TigerTurf worked closely with the school to deliver a vibrant, dual-marked court that would enhance both structured physical education and informal play.

A Court with Multi-functional Play

The project began with the preparation of an asphalt base, providing a strong and stable foundation. Once this was in place, TigerTurf installed its Advantage surface – a sand-dressed synthetic turf designed for multi-sport use. The court was marked for both netball and basketball, allowing the school to make the most of the available space.

The colour combination of olive green for the outer area and blue for the inner court gave the space a fresh, modern look that stands out in the school grounds. TigerTurf Advantage was chosen for its excellent performance characteristics and long-term durability. It offers consistent ball bounce and grip, making it ideal for fast-paced sports like basketball and netball. The surface is also designed to be low-maintenance and weather-resistant, which is particularly important in school settings where the court is used frequently and in all seasons. The sand infill helps keep the surface stable and reduces glare, while the non-directional yarn ensures even play across the entire court.

High Quality Sports Surface and Ongoing Maintenance

Once year after the installation, TigerTurf’s maintenance team returned to groom the court as part of its on going care programme. This grooming process helps revitalise the surface, remove debris, and extend the life of the turf. The school was pleased with the results, Nick Adam, Principal/Tumuaki commented:

“I’ve just popped into school to prep for the week and noticed the turf has been cleaned – it looks brand new! After the huge drop of leaves in autumn, the area looks fantastic now. The kids are going to love it! Really impressed with TigerTurf – what a great company.”
