Metro Park Hockey

TigerTurf's multi-sport technicolour installation is a standout feature at the new hockey turf at Metro Park Hockey for the Hockey Hibiscus Trust. Teams warm up on the new sports arena, cheered on by supporters from the side-line seats, while players’ families enjoy an action-packed park.
In 2019, TigerTurf constructed the main hockey field, installing the TenCate EcoCept base drainage system beneath the TigerTurf WETT Pro hockey surface. Phase 1 also included the installation of Lumosa LED lights, providing clear, safe illumination for both day and night games.

TigerTurf multi-purpose sports and play turf at Metro Park Hockey

TigerTurf multi-purpose sports and play turf at Metro Park Hockey

In Phase 2, TigerTurf added fun and colour, completing the Metro Park Hockey project. We designed a multi-sports area for warm-ups and family use during practice sessions. This included a concrete base with drainage, topped by a multipurpose sports and playground area. Players can warm up with tennis, basketball, or netball, jog on the concrete track, or practice sprints and long jumps. The Lumosa LED lights ensure bright and cheerful conditions for early morning and evening activities.
TigerTurf Advantage was used for the tennis and basketball-netball courts, featuring an olive green playing area with a dark green border. A tennis net can be moved as needed, and a concrete-block wall encourages volleying and serving practice. Two height-adjustable basketball-netball towers invite players to join the fun. The brick red sprint track, marked with clear white lanes, is perfect for warm-ups and long jump practice, while the perimeter concrete running track provides an excellent workout. The bowling run-up to the cricket nets also uses TigerTurf Advantage, offering excellent traction, while TigerTurf Premier at the wicket ensures realistic speed and turn. The court area is designed to be a hub of activity for both hockey players and their families, with carefully controlled activities and colours.
Metro Park Hockey project showcases TigerTurf’s commitment to creating vibrant, functional sports environments that serve both athletic and community needs.

At the end of the main court area, we created a colourful playground with TigerTurf Summer Envy 35 XWR, laid over a Softfall pad for safety. This area includes jewel-coloured hopscotch, a wiggly caterpillar, and a blue and white chess board, making it an attractive and engaging play space for children of all ages.

TigerTurf thrives on designing bright, cheerful sports and recreational areas for various purposes and ages. This multi-purpose sports arena has been well-received by the Hibiscus Hockey community, praised for its balanced design and aesthetic appeal. We collaborated with hockey administration and players to create a mix of warm-up activities that are both useful for players and engaging for their families. Despite local planning challenges, we successfully incorporated a volley wall at the end of the tennis court, a popular feature that provides a fast, full-body warm-up.

Ecocept Base

The Ecocept base is made from recycled rubber (old car tyres) and end of life plastic. These components are ground down and refined into pellets which are then processed into an innovative porous pavement.
Essentially, TigerTurf’s Ecocept turns landfill into high-performance sports bases used under synthetic turf sports playing surfaces.
