Breathing New Life Into The Heart Of Porirua College

When Porirua College approached TigerTurf, they had a clear vision: to breathe new life into their aging artificial turf at the heart of the campus. They wanted to transform the worn-out space into a vibrant, versatile area that could host a wide range of activities, offering students the flexibility to engage in various sports and recreational play. TigerTurf was called upon to help make this vision a reality, crafting a solution that would meet the college’s needs and energize their central hub.

Porirua College actively engaged with their students to understand what they wanted from the new space, ensuring the final design would cater to their interests. Through this consultation, the school recognized the demand for a versatile setup, leading to the inclusion of two volleyball courts along with futsal and turbo touch line markings. The college chose a two-tone blue color scheme to create a visually appealing and dynamic environment, with a bold splash of red highlighting the turbo touch scoring areas, adding an extra layer of excitement and energy to the courts.

Central Area of the Campus as a Multi-use Space

To meet the specific demands of volleyball, futsal, and turbo touch, TigerTurf installed their premium TigerTurf Advantage surface over a 10mm rubber pad. This combination was chosen for its ability to deliver a fast-paced playing experience, crucial for competitive sports, while also providing a comfortable surface that reduces stress on joints and muscles. The 10mm rubber pad enhances shock absorption and durability, ensuring the courts remain resilient and maintain their performance over time.
When TigerTurf uplifted the existing turf at Porirua College, they discovered the base was unsuitable for resurfacing. To address this issue, they proposed digging out 50mm of the old aggregate, replacing it with new material, and carefully recompacting the area. This approach ensured a flat, safe surface, essential for maintaining the quality of play and the long-term durability of the new turf.

TigerTurf’s work transformed the college’s central area into a dynamic, multi-use space. The new design, created in consultation with students, included two volleyball courts, futsal, and turbo touch markings, all set against a vibrant color scheme. By installing their Advantage surface over a 10mm rubber pad, TigerTurf provided a solution that offers fast-paced play, enhanced comfort, and long-lasting performance, fully meeting the college’s vision and the students’ needs.
