Waimakariri District Council’s Kaiapoi East Regeneration project to inject renewed energy into the area with some
popular recreational sports facilities.

Transform unused areas with easy-care, all-weather, irresistible TigerTurf

The existing asphalt court was worn to the point of posing a safety risk, no longer suitable for school sports or play. A problem common to the previous generation of school asphalt courts that were well used in their day; but now, as the surfaces deteriorate and break up, they have become trip hazards, with ponding and puddles lingering after rain on the uneven playground.

Happily, TigerTurf sports surfaces offer schools and clubs a glorious array of colours to create colourful, purpose-designed multi-purpose, all-weather synthetic sports surfaces. Our turf surfaces are safe for use in all weather throughout the year and look gorgeous for many years with minimal care – no wonder TigerTurf is in demand throughout the world.

Twin TigerTurf Endurance 50 softball diamonds constructed from base to laser-perfect surface

Formerly residential land, the site contained unknown hazards beneath the surface. Though all services had been decommissioned, the risk of contaminants remained. No contaminated soil could be removed from the site; instead, it is contained within a designated area on the site for future disposal.

Each of the softball diamonds has extra high fencing along the roadside boundaries to contain the enthusiasm of hard-hitting softball batsmen. The high fencing needed specialised footings to support it safely, given the ground conditions of the site. TigerTurf engaged an engineer to assess the ground conditions and advise on the footings required for such fences.

Our project included digging out and boxing up the two sites before constructing a base with effective drainage to maintain the all-weather surface. This was topped by the 10mmBSW shock pad and the TigerTurf Endurance 50 sports turf with sand and rubber granule infill.

The regeneration has begun on a high note with these TigerTurf twin durable, top quality softball diamonds for local clubs and community use, set in a beautiful rural Canterbury landscape.

Endurance 50

Endurance 50 is suitable for high usage field sports such as Football, Rugby, League, AFL and Futsal. It is a third-generation football surface designed, manufactured and tested to meet premium performance standards. This surfacing system utilises TenCate XP Blade+ yarn which is the only yarn in the world sold with an unlimited play durability warranty from the yarn manufacturer. Suitable for play with flat soled shoes.

Endurance 50

TigerTurf Endurance 50 with durable, tough XP fibre for high-use sports grounds

Endurance 50 withstands the wear and tear caused by cleats beneath softball shoes that give the players safe traction. This surface has a good depth of fibre with sufficient infill protection to allow the players to slide, dive, turn and run safely.

Including a shock pad beneath the surface cushions falls and impacts safely to reduce the risk of injury; it also extends the playing life of the synthetic sports surface.

The resilient XP fibre of the TigerTurf Endurance 50 grass blades limits the uneven spread of infill caused by sliding and sprinting.

Endurance 50 uses advanced TigerCOOL technology to reduce the turf temperature on baking hot Canterbury summer days. Now that’s a feature all sportsmen and women appreciate.

The project included base pads and a pitching mat secured within the TigerTurf Endurance 50 surface, providing permanent accurate placings for game day.

These softball facilities will definitely bring locals into the Kaiapoi recreational park.
