Case Studies
Gigg Lane Stadium, the home ground for Bury Football Club, is one of the UK’s largest and oldest stadiums; with the first recorded match dated the 12th of September 1885 against Wigan Football Club. Fed up of facing surface issues, they needed a pitch that could offer a legacy of longevity, just like them.

From Mud Bath to Match Ready
At Gigg Lane, the home of Bury Football Club, the natural turf pitch was no longer doing its job. Poor drainage and an ageing surface had made it difficult to maintain a reliable schedule, with training sessions and fixtures regularly disrupted. For a club working to build momentum both on and off the pitch, the surface had become a barrier.
A decision was made to install a new 3G surface that could keep up with the demands of a busy, growing club, and it was our Premier Pro 50 that was selected to deliver the performance and durability Bury FC needed.
The Perfect Turf for Maximum Performance
Premier Pro 50 is engineered using our unique twisted yarn technology. The fibres are designed to flex under pressure, absorbing impact and distributing stress evenly across each filament. This removes weak points and significantly reduces the risk of breakages, creating a resilient, match-ready surface that’s built to last – and built to be played on, whatever the weather.
The pitch installation was delivered ahead of schedule, even in challenging conditions, thanks to the expertise of McArdle Sport Tec. And with the new surface in place, Bury FC now benefits from a consistent, high-quality pitch that allows players to focus on the game, not the ground beneath them.
One Pitch with Endless Possibilities
But the impact goes further than the first team. The pitch has opened up new possibilities across the club, giving the women’s and junior teams a permanent home, after years of playing at multiple venues. It’s also provided the capacity to welcome commercial partners and launch an Under-21s team, adding new energy to the club’s future plans.
We’re proud that Premier Pro 50 is part of Bury FC’s evolution, providing a professional-grade surface that’s helping the club meet the needs of its community.
David McNabb – Bury Football Club’s First Team Manager
“The club’s new 3G pitch installation is a fantastic development for Bury FC and the wider community. It’s not just an artificial sports surface, the new 3G pitch is an asset located right in the heart of the Bury community which will have a lasting impact. People can train and play on the artificial pitch, as well as watching the games as spectators.”
Neil Sears – CEO for Bury Football Club
“The 3G pitch has not only provided a reliable playing surface but has also increased the club’s revenue potential. It’s an asset that goes beyond just football, it brings the community together, offers stability to our teams, and provides a space for commercial activities. Any club looking to enhance their facilities should seriously consider it.”
