TigerTurf installed a top quality BowlsWeave synthetic bowling green for the Sebastopol Bowling Club, Ballarat. The best surface was laid beneath a hugely arching canopy that keeps the green in play come rain or sunshine – mainly sunshine in Ballarat, and plenty of it!
The club sent its members out to do some intensive product testing before selecting the best. Members tested bowling surfaces on local greens and further afield, even travelling interstate to play on as many different surfaces as possible. There was an important decision to be made, and everyone in the club took a keen interest in the outcome.
After members had visited the Greater Geelong area, and bowled at Point Lonsdale and Lara, the ensuing positive reports led the club to choose BowlsWeave above all the other bowling
green products.
The TigerTurf team set to work. They excavated the existing site, replacing and re-levelled the top 30mm of existing base, to construct a stable, free-draining base, topped with TigerBond. Over that, the new underlay was installed, along with the BowlsWeave surface.
Play on the new surface has led to enthusiastic responses from the club members, impressed by the consistent speed, trajectory and finish of the bowl during play. The surface also has the merit of providing comfortable playing conditions, a feature that the players especially value after a long day on the green.
And while they enjoy a better game of bowls, they are protected from the harsh summer sunlight and winter rain by the magnificent canopy constructed by Light Weight Structures.
