An excellent example of breathing life back into an under-utilised facility is the conversion by Lindfield Sports Centre in NSW of a neglected bowling green into three 5-a-side football courts. Hugely popular in Europe, South America and other Latin countries, the fast paced five-a- side football is becoming increasing popular around Australia.
The Lindfield Sports Centre, home of the Lindfield Football Club, recognised the growing popularity of 5-a-side football, and undertook to re-develop the unused bowling green to provide new opportunities for the community to get out and get active. And the club now has a highly durable, all-weather facility to meet its internal training requirements. Furthermore, now they have gone with synthetic turf, Lindfield Sports Centre can make a commercial return on their asset by leasing the fields for hire. By upgrading the infrastructure services, with the introduction of lighting, games can also be played at night – more time to generate more income!
The project was completed in partnership with Synergy Civil who built the sports surface base, car parks, fencing and paths. The surface is TigerTurf Endurance 40P over the top of 3,081m2 of 10mm Regupol shockpad. The finished facility will meet FIFA 1* football turf standards.
