Northam Bowling Club’s old, worn green wasn’t offering a happy playing experience for the members – time it was replaced. But the process entailed months of fund-raising, research and planning. The Northam members asked bowling clubs throughout Western Australia about the performance of their greens, looked at all the synthetic greens on the market and considered their options. Some clubs were unhappy about their new greens being too slow, and others displeased with the short life span of their surfaces. The positive feedback confirming TigerTurf SuperGreen as an excellent playing surface led them to make further enquiries with local clubs that had TigerTurf SuperGreen surfaces.
Capel Bowling Club was able to tell the Northam members that the club is super impressed with the performance of the TigerTurf SuperGreen we installed there ten years ago. So are we, Capel! TigerTurf SuperGreen was selected and, with the research completed, the installation process was under way.
The TigerTurf team set to work excavating and replacing the top 30mm of base material with new base material. We then bonded the top surface material of the base with the special TigerBond system that provides a stable, freely draining base to support the bowling surface.
The fine layer of regulating sand on top of the base is also bonded. Our sub bases are designed to work with our TigerTurf sports surfaces; together, they form an effective turf system that will give excellent playing performance over many years.
The TigerTurf SuperGreen was laid before Christmas, 2015, ready for the Northam Club members to enjoy a long summer of their favourite game. They’ll be able to play twilight and winter
tournaments, too, with consistent playing conditions on a surface that is also comfortable underfoot.
