St Bernadette’s Primary School

“Our new TigerTurf multi-sports court and playground are amazing – the students think Christmas has come early. We have to roster them on!” Kathy Lowe, principal of St Bernadette’s Primary School, Ivanhoe, and the school community are delighted with the school’s fabulous new playgrounds. The atmosphere of St Bernadette’s vibrated with excitement and celebration as students and staff tried out their bright new playground; a miraculous phoenix had emerged from the grey remains of the old asphalt of yesterday.

Clever design encourages students to use the TigerTurf multi-sport court

The clever design of the new TigerTurf play area for St Bernadette’s evolved from the school’s mission to modernise the playing areas to encourage the students to participate in more activities. Kathy Lowe, the school principal, wanted the students to enjoy the benefits of a colourful, flat, softer surface that was safe for play in all weather.

A playground to engage and delight every school student (and staff, families…)

TigerTurf removed the old synthetic surface and regraded the existing base material to the higher standard we specify for TigerTurf synthetic surfaces. Over the base, we installed our 45mm TigerPad, certified to a critical fall height of 2 metres, making this a safer playground for adventurous students. We then installed the lush green Summer Envy 35 lawn, which was crowned with the colourful playground equipment, promising hours of fun. TigerTurf framed the landscape picture with an attractive capped timber retaining wall to set off the playground as the special place it will be for many years.

TigerTurf TigerPlay

We recommended using TigerTurf’s TigerPlay surface, a vibrantly colourful yarn that is softer than traditional synthetic surfaces. We manufacture this with students in mind, with specialised characteristics that are particularly suitable for intensive, long-term use.

The court offers many sports on a single multi-purpose surface

The richly coloured TigerPlay playground includes a full mini-soccer field, with practice areas around the sides for intensive skill development, or to enjoy kicking a ball around with friends at break times. The volleyball court, distinguished by its deeper olive green, is the central feature of the multi-sport court, while other students time each other’s personal best around the blue perimeter running track.

TigerTurf installations over existing bases begin with remedial work and effective drainage

TigerTurf carried out repairs of the existing asphalt of the main play area to create the stable and free-draining base required for our high-performance TigerTurf sports turfs. This included removing the undulations across the surface to establish a suitable surface for a synthetic turf installation.
