Wedge Park Primary School Principal, Paul Schwartz, had been planning to create a modern, technical sports facility on the school oval for some time. After a lengthy tender process, TigerTurf was delighted to be awarded the Wedge Park Primary School project. Paul intended to carry out extensive work as part of the school upgrade, the main areas of focus being the school’s troublesome oval. As is the case with many school ovals, the Wedge Park School oval became muddy and out of bounds in winter, and then, in the dry summer months, the dusty surface was unpleasant for the students. Altogether, the oval was generally unplayable for much of the school year.

TigerTurf resolved the school’s difficulties by creating consistent and enjoyable playing conditions for the children. Wedge Park Primary School wisely selected TigerTurf Endurance Play for the new AFL field. Endurance Play is one of the most durable synthetic surfaces available worldwide.
This outstanding resilience gave the school confidence that its investment in a good quality sports turf would give excellent service for many years to come.
As always in these projects, the construction team began by excavating the site to build a stable crushed rock base incorporating a capping layer and liner to mitigate the amount of water getting into the base, due to the reactive nature of the local conditions. A spoon drain captures the water off the batter surrounding the field, ensuring water and mud doesn’t encroach on to the surface. Additionally, spoon drains were installed along the low perimeters of the field to stop water running into the neighbouring houses.
Around the TigerTurf fresh green Endurance Play AFL field is a brick-red, 2-lane running track in our TigerTurf 19mm Tournament surface. This has been extended at the northern end to make room for the 4 basketball rings, with full keys and 3-point lines, encouraging the students to hone some extra skills and have even more fun.
Additionally, TigerTurf constructed 2 fully fenced cricket nets and 2 attractive landscape grass lawns, a remarkable improvement of the existing areas that have become extremely popular with the students.
Paul and the Wedge Park Primary School community are thrilled with the work TigerTurf has carried out and, as for the students, they now love playing on their evergreen school oval!
