Narrogin, in Western Australia, celebrated the opening of their new TigerTurf WETT Pro synthetic turf hockey turf with two games between the Kookaburras and Great Britain in what will be the Kookaburras last series on home soil before they head to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games.

The Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies officially opened the new surface and welcomed the Australian men's hockey team and the Great Britain team to Narrogin which is located 200km east south east of Perth.

In an interview with Australian Leisure, Minister Davies stated  "This is an exciting opportunity for regional Western Australia. Australia won bronze at the 2012 London Olympics and defeated Great Britain, so we expect the competition to be world-class.  The new turf has enhanced the quality and status of hockey in the region and we look forward to seeing more big events here, given it has been resurfaced to international standards.

Minister Davies concluded "Narrogin is a regional hockey powerhouse and it's an exciting opportunity for local fans to see a couple of world-class games on home turf and watch their heroes play.  I hope these games inspire those locals involved in hockey - or thinking about becoming involved - as it's a wonderful sport to keep you fit, healthy and engaged with the community."

TigerTurf is a key partner of Hockey Australia, and itshockey surfaces have a tremendous reputation throughout the hockey fraternity. With this recommendation, the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association had full confidence in asking TigerTurf to replace the existing synthetic surface at Narrogin with our top-level WETT Pro hockey turf. TigerTurf WETT Pro is manufactured from a texturised monofilament developed at the TenCate research centre.

The technology behind this fibre has produced a grain-free playing surface, allowing the ball to travel smoothly in all directions, and the players to move their sticks across the surface without noticeable dragging. As a bonus, TigerTurf WETT Pro hockey pitches can be used wet or dry, and have a longer playing life than any other synthetic turf product.
